With the 2018-19 NBA trade deadline approaching on Feb. 7, the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to trade for Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Through all of the conflicting reports, president of basketball operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka reportedly have offered five different proposals. As one proposal reportedly includes the entire young core except for Josh Hart, the other one reportedly includes a mixture of players.

Since Davis has given the Pelicans four teams as preferred destinations, there is a sense of urgency for the Lakers to complete a trade soon.

With the Pelicans reportedly looking for more, the Lakers are willing to include a second first round draft pick and take on Solomon Hill‘s salary, according to Brad Turner of Los Angeles Times:

Following Davis’ request, it quickly became a real possibility the Lakers would have to trade their entire young core for him. With the Boston Celtics viewed as the team with the most assets, the Pelicans could wait until July 1 to complete a trade with them due to Kyrie Irving and the ‘Rose Rule.’

While there is uncertainty about Irving’s future which could impact a potential proposal from the Celtics, Davis fulfills Johnson and Pelinka’s vision of sustained success. At just 25-years-old, Davis can help James win now and once the 34-year-old ultimately retires.

Although it would be difficult to trade most of the young core after five seasons of rebuilding through the NBA Draft, the Lakers are going all in on Davis.
